Legislature's SuperFerry EIS Bill
SB1785

The next step for SB1785 is that it goes down on the floor but just for a formality of a floor vote however, the bill now goes on to Sen. Inouye's Transportation and Government Operations (TGO) committe

The bill will go to TGO and could receive a hearing any time after February 21st.  The bill would need to receive a hearing btwn the 22nd and March 3rd.

So the best bet is to send a letter, email or fax around the 22nd to ask that this bill receives a hearing.  It is important that the bill receive a hearing because if it doesn't then the bill is considered dead for the session. When the bill passes out of TGO, it will be transmitted to the House and the process repeats itself again.

Here is a quick deadline outline for your information.

SB1785 needs to receive hearings by these dates:

  • First Decking: March 3rd (Awaiting hearing)
  • Crossover of bills to House: March 10th
  • Second Decking: April 8th (SB1785 needs to clear all House referrals by this time)
  • 2nd Crossover of bills back to Senate: April 14th
  • Final Decking: April 28th (If SB1785 needs to go to conference committee because the House made changes to the bill, then the bill needs to have a hearing and a decision made prior to this date(btwn April 14th-28th)
  • PAU: After Final Decking the bill is transmitted to the Gov for her approval or veto.

We urge you to voice your support to require the Hawaii Superferry, Inc to provide a full Environmental Impact Statement. You can send email or messages to the Honolulu advertiser at hawaii@honoluluadvertiser.com, or leave a message at 535-8191 by 10 a.m. tomorrow.
